Explore the Art of Architecture – and the King of Instruments – at Bramhall Parish Church

Sunday 21st September 2025 | 12–5pm | Free Entry

As part of Heritage Open Days, Bramhall Parish Church is inviting the community to step inside, explore its beautiful architecture, and experience the thrill of the King of Instruments — the pipe organ.

This special event is part of the Royal College of Organists’ “Play the Organ” year (more info here (https://www.rco.org.uk/play)), designed to give people of all ages the opportunity to enjoy, learn about, and even play this incredible instrument.

Join us to hear – and play – our beautiful pipe organ, featuring music for all ages and tastes, followed by the opportunity to play — open to all, regardless of musical experience or ability!

The day will be led by Alexandria Walker, Director of Music at St Michael’s, and Simon Mercer, Area Accredited Teacher for the RCO.

Alongside Bramhall’s own historic instrument, Church Organ World will be bringing two exhibition organs to try, with sheet music also available to browse and purchase.

Event format:

45-minute sessions at 1pm, 2pm and 3pm (with 15-minute breaks between)

Each session includes an organ recital (performed by Alexandria Walker, Simon Mercer, and guests) followed by “have-a-go” time in small groups to explore the exhibition organs.

Approximate split: 20 minutes recital, 25 minutes play time.

Whether you’re an experienced musician, a curious beginner, or just want to enjoy beautiful music in a stunning setting, this is a rare chance to experience the organ up close.
